The twilight of Bush Terminal (2007-2017)
This series speaks to the decline and eventual fall of Bush Terminal in Sunset Park. With the introduction of gentrification into its surrounding neighborhood, a new era of revitalization is slowly occurring. Those old buildings glorify the incredible maritime machine that was Bush Terminal, which employed over 25,000 workers and hundreds of businesses in the early 20th century.
The area however has been forgotten and abandoned for decades. Exploring this relic of what was once an industrial jewel of Brooklyn, the feelings of emptiness and loneliness are in stark contrast to what it once was. Sunset Park is still breathing quietly. If you listen closely, you can hear the heartbeat of the old Bush Terminal, faint, but still beating, hoping for the possibility of its next heyday.
These images are a testament to my assimilation; making Brooklyn my home, and paying tribute to and celebrating its rich history.
